Strand is a great base for exploring the Cape. You have the beach on your doorstep, while Cape Town, the Winelands and the False Bay coastline are all within easy reach,
Spend the day on Strand’s long sandy beach, go for a swim, take a walk along the promenade or simply settle in for a relaxed day beside the ocean. Strand is also known for surfing and other water activities.
Take the short drive to Gordon’s Bay for beautiful beaches, the harbour and seaside restaurants. Bikini Beach is a popular stop, while Clarence Drive offers spectacular coastal scenery as it winds towards Rooi Els and beyond.
The vineyards around Somerset West and Stellenbosch make an easy day out from Strand. Spend the day visiting wine estates, enjoying wine tastings and long lunches, or simply exploring the beautiful countryside. The Helderberg region is home to more than 20 wine estates.
For something more active, head into the Helderberg mountains for hiking and beautiful views across False Bay. The reserve is home to indigenous fynbos and a variety of birdlife.
The drive from Gordon’s Bay along Clarence Drive is one of the area's highlights. Stop along the way for photographs, viewpoints and a swim or picnic when the weather allows.
Strand is close enough to Cape Town for a full day exploring the city. Visit Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, the Company's Garden, the Bo-Kaap or head towards the Atlantic Seaboard for Camps Bay and Clifton.
Make a day of the Cape Peninsula and stop at Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town to see the famous African penguin colony. From there, continue towards Cape Point and explore the spectacular coastline.
Golfers have several options in the surrounding area, including Strand Golf Club and courses around Somerset West and the Helderberg.
Strand has plenty for families, including water activities, mini-golf and the tidal pool at Harmony Park. Waterworld Strand is another option for a fun day out.
